TANNING PLAN

Preparation is the key to achieving the best possible tan. Determining the tanning program that’s right for your unique skin type before you start is the key to achieving and maintaining a natural-looking glow. Tanning is about more than just looking good, it’s also about the satisfaction of knowing you are taking the best care of your skin. From moisturisers to self-tanners, our premium tanning lotions, cream and oils are a tan’s best friend. Give yourself the power to treat your skin right and tan in a controlled environment!

ENSURING YOU GET A GREAT TAN, SAFELY AND IMPROVE YOUR OWN WELL BEING

Healthy skin is the foundation of a successful tan. Indoor tanning products are designed to provide critical moisture to the skin before, during and after tanning. Dry skin peels away your tan layer by layer, so the healthier your skin, the longer you keep a tan. Your skin is designed to tan as a natural body function. A tan is the body’s natural protection against sunburn.

INDOOR TANNING. SAFE & SENSIBLE TANNING

The professional indoor tanning industry promotes and teaches what is referred to as “The Golden Rule of Smart Tanning”: Don’t ever sunburn. Indoor tanning is an intelligent way to minimise the risk of sunburn while maximizing the enjoyment and benefit of having a tan.

A HEALTHY, GLOWING SKIN WHILST YOU TAN

Good skin care can help delay the natural aging process and prevent many skin problems. Here are some simple skin care rules that will help protect your skin and keep it healthy and glowing.

Protect yourself from the sun: Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during high-intensity hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., wear protective clothing and use sunscreen if prolonged exposure cannot be avoided.

Wash your skin gently: Cleansing an essential part of caring for your skin. Warm water is preferable to hot, which removes the natural oils from your skin. Choose mild soaps and pat your skin dry, so that some moisture remains on your skin, then moisturise immediately.

Moisturise regularly: Moisturisers help maintain your skin’s natural moisture levels. Moisturisers work by creating a seal over your skin to keep water from escaping, or by slowly releasing water into your skin. The moisturiser that’s right for you depends upon your particular skin type and your age.

Miniaturisation is essential in the tanning process. Accelerators are specifically formulated to condition the skin whilst replenishing essential Vitamins. In addition to providing moisture, accelerator lotions carry ingredients that trigger the melanocyte cells to produce more melanin. This in turn is what helps you tan quicker. When you see this symbol, it confirms that these products have no tingle or bronzer properties.

Enables you to feel and see your tan working immediately. Ingredients help stimulate rapid circulation on the surface of the skin, creating an extreme redness and warming/tingling sensation to enhance the intensity and appearance of a tan.

Tingle factors vary from range to range, giving you a moderate to extreme tingle. The effect is temporary and can last up to several hours.

Warning: We recommend testing a small area of the skin before using a tingle product. Tingle products should not be used by beginner tanners or those with sensitive skin. Never use a tingle product outdoors.

Helps you achieve your desired tanning results while helping your skin feel cool.

Bronzers

A bronzer is a product with natural ingredients or DHA that provide colour to the skin. Lotions containing bronzers will enable people to achieve greater results from their tanning experience, sometimes more quickly. There are three main types of bronzer.

A DHA (dihydroxyacetone) bronzer does not require any UV light stimulation to produce a tan. These bronzers work by reacting to certain proteins on the surface layers of your skin. DHA takes approximately 6 to 8 hours to fully develop and should always be applied in circular motions. Always wash hands after use when using a product that contains DHA bronzers.

As the name suggests, these bronzers provide immediate colour but will wash away after showering or when you come into contact with water. When using a lotion that contains these bronzers, you will see an initial colour so have the added benefit of a bronzed tan instantly.

A natural bronzer enhances the skin's natural tanning potential by utilizing agents that occur naturally, and some of these ingredients include Henna, Walnut Oil, Kola Nut, Caramel and Carrot Oil.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes! There is a wealth of research citing responsible use of UV light as the best source of Vitamin D. All life on earth is in some way reliant on sunlight to thrive and humans are no different. Vitamin D is essential for development, maintenance and function of many systems in the human body as well as for the prevention of chronic illnesses and the promotion of health and well being.

Outdoor sunlight is in short supply in the northern hemisphere, we even joke about the lack of the British Summer time! This in turn leads to an increased risk of Vitamin D deficiency. Using a responsible indoor tanning package is not only tailored to your skin type, it is an efficient use of time. A recent study stated that we would need to be in outdoor sunlight for 130 minutes in Autumn and Winter in order to produce this essential hormone!

Using a UV tanning bed regularly for a session length suited for your skin type is a great way to help promote and boost your Vitamin D levels.

The amount of time left between sessions varies depending on skin type and whether you are building or maintaining a tan. Our policy states that no more than one session can be used in any 48-hour period. The reason for this being that the tanning process takes 24 hours to complete and as such, this reduces the risk of over-exposure and maximises your tanning potential.

When building a tan, it is important to not leave more than 72 hours between sessions as after this time, the tan will begin to recede.

Our tanning consultants are trained to assist you in designing your personal tanning plan which is determined by your skin type, tanning history and tanning preferences.

While there is no research to indicate UV light would have a negative effect on an unborn baby, our policy is to prohibit the use of UV tanning equipment.

We are always happy to place an active tanning package “on hold” for the duration of a pregnancy or transfer credit to a friend or family member. Packages are reactivated for the amount of time remaining on the package at the time of placing it “on hold”.

Building a tan is dependent on skin type and the condition of the skin. Dry skin reflects light and as the cells shed more frequently, any tan developed does not last. Fair skin tans more quickly whereas medium and dark skin types are more resistant to the tanning process, requiring more sessions. The time taken to build a tan varies dependant on many factors, but on average, a base tan can be developed between 3 and 5 sessions.

You are able to maximise your tanning potential by ensuring that the skin is fully exfoliated and thoroughly moisturised. We stock a wide range of UV lotions that encourage the tanning process as well as replace moisture lost during your session. Our tanning consultants are trained to help you find a lotion to suit your preferences and tanning requirements.

Eurotanspa trains our Tanning Consultants to assist clients to choose equipment to suit their individual preferences. Stand-Up tanning is fantastic for short, convenient tanning whereas lay-down tanning is great for relaxing.

Dry skin reflects light and sheds more frequently. Any tan that develops is shallow and does not last. Moisturising is key to developing a deeper, darker tan. A week before your first session, thoroughly exfoliate and moisturise. Ensure that you moisturise after every bath or shower and use a UV specific lotion during your session.

Standard package deals are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. Monthly Memberships are valid for one month. Promotional package deals may vary and store staff can advise you upon purchase.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is believed to be caused by a lack of exposure to Sunlight. With long winters and an increasingly indoor lifestyle, the modern Britain is at increased risk of developing this condition. Having regular, controlled exposure to UV light can indirectly reduce the symptoms of SAD by providing an artificial outdoor environment.

UV light boosts Vitamin D and Serotonin production. Serotonin is the hormone associated with mood elevation and it has been found to rise with exposure to bright light and fall with decreased sun exposure.

As with any other medical condition, we advise that you consult with your GP or Health professional in respect of specific medical conditions.

Package Minutes can be used in both salons on equipment of equal or lower value.

Each of our stores will have a link to their nearest store, where your minutes can be used. You can find your stores address using on our Contact Page.

Session length is determined by skin type and tanning history. The first session with us is usually the minimum session length suitable for your skin type which in turn enables our trained Tanning Consultants to help you design the tanning package to suit you.

We advise that clients consult with their GP before undertaking any UV tanning package to treat a specific condition. Whereas UV light is believed to kill the bacteria associated with Acne, new developments in treatment of this skin condition and many others underlines the necessity to consult with a health professional.

However, UV tanning equipment is absolutely fantastic for the production of Vitamin D. Experts believe that having a vitamin D deficiency might limit the body’s ability to skin healthy and as such, conditions such as Acne, Psoriasis and Eczema may be indirectly helped by ensuring that Vitamin D levels are maintained. Talk with your health professional about the different options you have available.
